PAUL MACDONALD – MAGPI CHAIRMAN 

Paul has a background in corporate governance and internal and external audit with 33 years’ experience in the mutual space. Based in South Australia, he is currently the Internal Auditor at the mutual health fund Health Partners and held previous roles of Company Secretary and Internal Audit Manager at People’s Choice / Australian Central.

Paul is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, has completed the CPA program and holds a Batchelor of Arts in Accounting.

Paul is also a professional underwater photographer, PADI dive master and is the proprietor of the underwater photography business downunderpix. Outside of work and underwater photography he is a single figure handicap golfer.

SARA NGUYEN – MAGPI COMMUNICATIONS OFFICER

Sara is Chief Internal Auditor at Teachers Mutual Bank Limited and has over 15 years audit experience in the Mutual Industry.

Sara is a Certified Practising Accountant and Certified Internal Auditor.

She works extensively with all areas of the business to actively execute the team’s commitment to provide assurance and ensure continued strength and success of the business.

Sara has been a part of the MAGPI Executive Committee since 2014 and is committed in promoting the internal audit profession and assisting other professionals in the Mutual Industry.

CATHERINE CANNON – MAGPI TREASURER

Catherine has a background in finance and risk and currently works at Australian Mutual Bank Ltd as their Senior Compliance Manager. She holds an Associate Diploma in Business (Accounting) and has completed a Masters Degree in Advance Finance with a banking major. 

Catherine has been in the Mutual Banking industry for more than 30 years. She has been a member of MAGPI since 2009 and joined the committee back in 2011. She enjoys being involved with the annual MAGPI conference and encourages the delegates to network through various opportunities.

SCOTT TOBUTT – MAGPI COMMITTEE MEMBER

 

Scott has over 25 years’ experience in audit practice in Sydney and the UK, and is currently a partner in the audit and assurance division at PKF Sydney.

Scott is currently National Head of Financial Services for PKF in Australia, with particular expertise in the audit of Financial Institutions, and of Mutual Institutions. This includes the provision of external audit, internal audit and risk management and compliance reviews (including AFSL and AML).

Scott has experience of working with numerous Mutual Institutions over 12 years and has built up strong passion for the sector.

Scott is a member of CAANZ, ICAEW, IIA & FINSIA, and satisfies APRA’s Fit & Proper requirements.

ANTAR CHAHINE – MAGPI COMMITTEE MEMBER

 

Antar is a Risk Management, Audit, Fraud and Compliance Professional with over two decades experience, predominately in Financial Institutions.

Antar is currently Qudos Bank’s ‘Chief Risk Officer’ (CRO) that Heads the Risk Management, Credit Risk, Compliance, AML / CTF, Privacy and Fraud Functions of the Bank.

Antar is also Qudos Bank’s Regulatory Liaison, Privacy Officer, AML/ CTF Officer and the Secretary for the Board Risk Committee.

Outside of his professional career, Antar enjoys life with his wife and children and catching up with family and friends.  Antar also volunteers on his children’s local community sporting committees to ensure the continued growth, success and enjoyment for all the kids within these communities.

CLAIRE SCOTT – MAGPI COMMITTEE MEMBER 

 

Claire is a Partner in the Assurance division at Grant Thornton and leads the banking practice. Claire has 14 years’ experience in the financial services industry. Prior to joining Grant Thornton in April 2015, Claire worked in the Financial Services group at KPMG. Her experience includes external and internal audit, risk management, due diligence and advisory for banks, credit unions and other APRA regulated entities. Through her work Claire has a particular focus on the mutual ADI’s and is passionate about the mutuals’ sector and its long term growth and relevance within the wider financial services landscape.


Claire is a member of CAANZ, Chartered Accountants Ireland, an ASIC Registered Company Auditor, Women in Mutuals.
